Speech Therapy
Rapid Recovery Suites offers a superior, comprehensive Speech Therapy program for those experiencing speech, communication, and cognitive and/or swallowing issues. A speech language pathologist (SLP) assesses, diagnoses, treats and helps prevent swallowing (dysphagia), cognitive-linguistic, speech and language disorders.
They work with individuals who have been affected by a neurological event or disease, head or neck cancer, or may have cognitive or physical debilitation from a recent surgery or underlying health condition or disease process. They will develop a plan to increase communication, cognition, voice function, or swallowing function, or safe swallowing strategies, including weaning a patient from tube feeding.
Speech Language Pathology may treat the following conditions:
- Stroke
- Traumatic Brain Injury
- Progressive Neurological conditions and issues such as Parkinson’s, Multiple Sclerosis, Alzheimer’s Disease
- Cognitive problems
- Respiratory and pulmonary conditions
- Spinal Cord injuries
- Ventilator patients
- Tracheostomies
- Cancer in the throat, mouth or esophagus
- Communication deficits
- Swallowing disorders (dysphagia)
Speech Language Pathology treatment may include:
- Expressive and receptive communication
- Memory, thinking and cognitive processing
- Neuromuscular re-education
- Voice therapy
- Aural rehabilitation
- Dysarthria
- Dysphagia (swallowing disorder)
- Augmentative Communication
- Reading and Writing
- Compensatory techniques and safety awareness
- Caregiver education and training
- Retraining for “real life situations” in our ADL home prior to discharge
- Home evaluation prior to discharge
