Occupational Therapy

Our excellent Occupational Therapy Program assists those who have reduced functioning in day-to-day activities, such as dressing, bathing, grooming, eating, meal preparation, and medicine management. An occupational therapist will assist in evaluating your individual needs and work with you to restore your abilities so you can maintain your independence and get on with living life to the fullest.

You’ll have the opportunity to test your progress in our Activities of Daily Living therapy house. This allows patients to practice all their learned skills in a true homelike environment before being discharged. If you’d like, our therapists will also go to your home to assess any potential problem areas to help ensure your safety.

Occupational Therapy may treat the following conditions:

• Acute and Chronic pain
• Fractures and orthopedic conditions
• Joint replacement
• Traumatic brain injury

• Progressive neurological conditions and issues
• Guillain-Barre Syndrome

Occupational Therapy treatment may include:

• Retraining of activity of daily living skills (ADLs)
• Energy conservation education
• Adaptive equipment training
• Contracture management
• Low vision training
• Upper extremity therapeutic exercise instruction
• Pain and edema management education
• Community re-entry training
• Ultrasound/electrical stimulation for edema/pain management
• Hand therapy
• Writing
• Prosthetic/brace management and training
• Positioning
• Compensatory techniques and safety awareness
• Caregiver education and training
• Retraining for “real life situations” in our ADL home prior to discharge
• Home evaluation prior to discharge
